This month took us on a visit to the new cellar door at Brokenwood. If you’re looking to taste great wines in style, this is the cellar door for you.
Brokenwood’s new state of the art tasting pods offer an intimate tasting with your host where you’ll be offered a choice of two tasting options, the first being the Varietal tasting with a range of wines that many would be familiar with and the second, the Single Vineyard tasting offering a range of wines from the Hunter and some other of Brokenwood’s growing regions.
Our host on the day, Roger, expertly and with good humour took us through a range of wines, all of which were standouts that we thoroughly enjoyed. Our picks of the day were the Rosato “Nebbiolo” which we discovered was foot pressed, keeping the wine low in tannins and with just 12 hours on skins producing a lovely lightness of colour. The wine is fragrant on the nose, yet has a lovely dryness without the sweetness some Roses may display.
The other fave was the Indigo Vineyard Chardonnay, a young 2018 wine that’s just perfect to drink now and is sure the please those of us who love a good chardy complete with a nice touch of oak in both bouquet and on the palate.
The new cellar door is certainly a must do tasting destination when you next visit the Hunter. We’re quite convinced that you won’t be disappointed…
