Welcome to Vamp, a new, stunning space by Lisa McGuigan where you’re invited to enjoy a wine tasting experience like no other. Be teased by wine, art and champagne as you take your place around the central tasting bar where you can enjoy “Just a Splash” or take your seat within a private tasting space and really “Vamp it Up”.
We chose to taste around the central bar, which you can certainly opt for if you’re a little time poor (as you are when you pop in during office hours!), however we’d certainly recommend emailing ahead to book a private space where you can take your time, perhaps order some oysters from the oyster bar and be guided through some amazing Hunter wines as well as a variety of other regional wines.
We began with the little known Gruner Veltliner (yes, we’d never heard of it either, so don’t feel bad). A refreshing white, somewhat reminiscent of a Semillon however displaying less acidity making for a very pleasant summertime wine. The signature wines were a knockout, being the Velvet Chardonnay and Platinum Maximus Shiraz, available exclusively at the Vamp cellar door. Everything about these wines is special, from the Italian sourced bottle and elegant labels to the hand-waxed, elongated bottle neck; a bottle that is certainly something special to keep after enjoying the wonderfully satisfying wines.
This is a great tasting experience in what I’d describe as an ethereal space with a sense of fun which left us knowing that this is most definitely a must-do when you next visit the Hunter Valley. But remember, email ahead so you don’t miss out and mention that Unwind sent you and you’ll be their extra special guest!
